the process

I start by creating trust in the counseling room. I do this by showing empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. The space I hold is safe for the client to explore their experiences free of judgment.

From here, I set goals by building conversation of where the client would like to be. What would life be like in the absence of the problems you are experiencing? Being creative and working together helps to set goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.

I am only as direct as the individual finds helpful. Counseling takes time, and each person moves at their own pace. I utilize a number of approaches including (but not limited to) person-centered, CBT, solution-focused, mindfulness, existential, positive psychology, and strengths-based.

I have a deep respect for the individual’s time, and will make sure to check in each session to build awareness of what the client is finding helpful. We are mindful to structure each session with enough time to delve deep, and also come back up for air and decompress.
